Joining Live June and Sap and Her Sorrows, The Queen's Corgi is the latest play in our new writing scheme. Written by up-and-coming writer Caitlin Willis.

Set over one Friday night in a struggling local pub, this short play explores community, stagnation, and the cost of staying or leaving. As patrons gather, the nostalgic old regular, a sharp-tongued local, a restless young man, and the weary bar staff take their places as the pub fills with familiar banter and unspoken tension. The return of an outsider who once left in search of something better ignites old resentments, and as drink loosens tongues, buried frustrations erupt into conflict. When a grieving patron finally reveals a private loss, the noise gives way to silence, exposing the pub’s true role: it's not just a place to drink, but a space where pain, memory, and connection are shared. As closing time arrives, nothing is resolved, but everything is laid bare.
